Feature Author: Tera Shanley

Hey Bookies, Leslie here, and I am THRILLED to introduce you to our featured author today, Tera Shanley! I was lucky enough to read her book during her blog tour and it was on my top reads of 2013. This is definitely an author to watch and a book to add to your TBR! ~ Leslie

About the Author

Tera Shanley writes in sub-genres that stretch from Paranormal Romance, to Historic Western Romance, to Apocalyptic (zombie) Romance. The common theme? She loves love! A self-proclaimed bookworm, she was raised in small town Texas and could often be found decorating a table at the local library. She currently lives in Dallas with her husband and two young children and when she isn’t busy running around after her family, she’s writing a new story or devouring a good book. Any spare time is dedicated to chocolate licking, rifle slinging, friend hugging, and the great outdoors. For more information about Tera and her work, visit www.terashanley.com.

1. Where are you from?
Dallas, Texas
2. When you aren't writing what do you like to do with your time?
Spending time with my family, probably outside if the weather is nice. And reading. Lots of reading.
3. Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?
Until about two and a half years ago, I didn't know if finishing a book was something I was even capable of. This was a surprise career, and it came about in the coolest, most fulfilling way for me.
4. What inspired your book?
A house fire. Sounds strange, but our house burned and my family spent the summer living in a hotel room with a week's worth of smokey clothes. I needed to write an edgier romance to save my sanity.
5. What would be your Zombie killing weapon of choice?
A zombie chomping T-Rex.
6. Are any characters or experiences based off of your life or someone you know?
In some of my books, yes, but not in this one. Thankfully I don't have any real life zombie stories. Yet!
7. If Love in the Time of the Dead was made into a movie and you could cast the leads, who would you chose?
Oooh, that's an awesome question. Okay, Michelle Rodriguez for Laney. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for Finn. Chris Pine for Sean and Taylor Kitsch for Mitchell. And the lovely Blake Lively as Vanessa.
8. Which writer, if any, would you consider a mentor?
Instead of one, I have a group of writers who are a huge inspiration. I got lucky enough to sign several of my books to a publisher with an active author loop. My Lyrical ladies have become awesome mentors. I'm a fan of so many of their books, and they are always down to answer questions.
9. What are you reading right now?
Betrothal by Jenna Jaxon, and then I'm diving straight into Cooking Up Love by Gemma Brocato.
10. What are your current projects?
Right now I have The Dawson Brides trilogy being shopped by my wonderful agent as well as the second book to Love in the Time of the Dead out on submission. I'm currently writing a Contemporary Romance set in Alaska, the third episode in my Slip the Skin novella series, and the fifth and final installment in the Silver Wolf Clan series that will release through Lyrical/Kensington later this year. And edits. Lots and lots of edits;)
11. What is something you hate doing? Why?
Writing a Synopsis to submit new books. Oh lawdy, those aren't fun. I can't really name any other authors who love writing them either though, haha.
12. Do you ever write naked? :) While under the influence?
Pants-less and bra-less, heck yes. Under the influence? Not so much anymore. I will say that when I first started writing, intimate scenes were easier with a shot or two of whiskey though.
13. What is your favorite drink?
Margarita
14. If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be?
Katniss Everdeen. Her author put her through the ringer and you know her much deserved ending is that much sweeter because of everything she experienced. Plus she shoots a bow. I also shoot a bow. She's kind of my hero.
15. Tell us something no one knows about you.
One of my legs is an inch and a half longer than the other. It's ruined my hip on that side and I can't, for the life of me, pass a physical exam.
16. Most embarrassing story?
I recently attended a friend's wedding as part of the wedding party. Well, everyone started drinking by 9:30 a.m. and i'm a light weight. I'm embarrassed (mortified) by all of the inappropriate pictures that were taken of me and some of the other sloppy lightweights by pro photographers that day. Pictures turned out beautiful. We, however, managed to look schnockered in every one.
17. Biggest pet peeve?
My husband is a sleep twitcher, and he spine punched me the other night right as I was drifting off. Spine punches would be my pet peeve.
18. Any quirky habits?
I rub my hands together like a maniacal villain before I eat good food.
19. Ebooks or Paperback?
I read mostly e-books but paperbacks have my heart. I love bookmarks, dog-earing the pages, the smell of paper, the danger of a paper cut, all of it.
20. Do you judge a book by it's cover?
Yep.
21. Do you listen to music while you write? What is your current favorite?
I do, depending on the scene. Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran is always a favorite. E.T. by Katy Perry and How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding are pretty consistent on my playlist as well.
22. Puppies or Kittens?
Adore Grumpy Cat memes, but dogs are my jam.

Laney Landry has been fighting Deads alongside her brother and friends for three years. But she has a secret. She's immune to Dead bites and has to find the right people to trust with the information. Her team rallies around her to find a doctor who can extract a vaccine from Laney which could fight the virus that ended the world.

Sean Daniels leads a colony that provides her team with much needed shelter and supplies. He is obviously interested in Laney. The question is whether he's only intrigued by her as a source for the possible vaccine, or for something more. Tests for the cure might push her body beyond what it can endure, and just as she faces a ghost from her past, her longtime teammate Derek Mitchell hints at an interest in more than just her Dead slaying abilities.

Two honorable and alluring men - one colossal decision to make. Despite historically bad taste in men, can she rise above the chaos of the apocalypse and choose the one who deserves her heart? The right choice could mean the difference between surviving...and living.

Review
5 AWESOME COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN STARS!!! So I have been looking forward to reading this book for a long time and it definitely lived up to my expectations! I've been loving the zombie thing for awhile, who hasn't am I right? :) But this was a unique story that didn't seem like I was reading a book I've read before. I felt that all the characters were well developed. Landry is tough and bad a$$. Sean Daniels is definitely a hottie but Derek Mitchell stole it for me. He was funny and such a STUD!! This book had action, suspense, romance, comedy, you name it it had it and it was a pleasure to read. This is one that I think anyone interested in the fantasy/paranormal realm would enjoy to read. ~ Leslie ADD TO GOODREADS

  1. I love your sense of humor-choice of zombies killing weapon-chomping T-rex. Some real life in your books but you don't know any zombies. I normally would not read zombie books, ever. But between your humor and Leslie's review I am looking forward to reading your books. Thank you
